Today as a service to readers of this weblog, and in honor of the new year, I begin my own reading and interpretation of the Koran.  Although I doubt I'll be able to get through the whole thing, I'm going to start with Shuras 1 and 2 and see what happens.  Since I don't speak Arabic, I'll have to use an English translation.  Posts on the subject will be collected under "The Koran" catagory in case you miss one.

Another very worthwhile Daniel Pipes article on the West's ongoing abandonment of the war on terror here http://www.danielpipes.org/article/3218.  Pipes doesn't mention Germany's just concluded trade with Hezbollah (which probably occurred after the piece was set for publication) but you can add that into the laundry list Pipes provides of how the West has returned to a pre-9/11 mentality.  It will probably take another, but even larger 9/11 type outrage to galvanize the West's public and elites, for however short a time, once again.

View Article  Kung Fu and Hustle Out

This is pretty amusing if you haven't seen it as a convenience store clerk, and martial arts practitioner confronts a knifewielding robber.  What's funny about it, is that there is no real fight.  Once the clerk gets into his kung fu stance the robber just runs away.  The only blow is struck to the would-be thief's backside as he is fleeing.

Moral of this story is don't bother to go through all the trouble to learn kung fu, etc., just practice the stances and a convincing glare, and scare you opponents away.  Video clip at this link          http://us.video.aol.com/video.index.adp?mode=2&guideContext=65.73&pmmsid=1443982

View Article  Billboard Raises Arab Ire

Is a billboard that suggests that terrorists are Arab racist?  That is what Arab-American civil rights groups are claiming about a billboard in North Carolina (story here http://articles.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20051216035509990004&ncid=NWS00010000000001) and Arab ire.  The poll attached says most Americans don't agree.

Not every Arab is a terrorist, indeed, only a tiny percentage are.  But most terrorists running around today are either Arabs, or Muslims from the Middle East.  Look at it this way.  Technically, most Germans during WWII were not Nazis, yet almost all Nazis were Germans or Austrians.  So would a billboard connecting Germans with Nazis have been unfair?

On the continuing theme of my ignored and under-appreciated prescience, is this article concerning the Selective Service's plans to draft women should need arise http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=38305.  The Army is also considering lowering enlistment standards by taking a small percentage of lower functioning recruits.  Read this as saying that the Army is now recruiting borderline retarded people, because that is what the lower categories of recruits effectively are, when you convert the Army ASVAB test into a basic IQ test formula.  Go 'tards!
